The Woman's Guide to Investing Your Way to Wealth
Let’s start with a confession. If someone asked where all of your money lives, could you answer without opening three apps or texting your partner?
Where is it held? How do you access it? What is it doing right now?
If you hesitate, you’re in good company. Plenty of smart, driven women have been taught to earn well and save carefully, but never how to see the whole picture and put it to work. Let’s change that.
On a recent episode of The Wealth We Hold, we sat down with Lisa M. Easton to talk about exactly that. Lisa is the founder of Millionaire Morning Mamas, home to the nation’s only investment club built for women, and a Glamour Women of the Year 2025 honoree. Through education, coaching, and community, she helps women move beyond simply earning money to strategically building, investing, and multiplying it.
Lisa did not hold back. She shared why saving alone will never get you there, why every woman needs to know every detail of her financial life, and how to start investing even if you feel nervous. We pulled her best advice into this guide, so let’s start with the biggest myth of all.
Wait, so saving is the problem?
Not quite. Saving is the foundation. An emergency fund buys you peace of mind, and that matters. But a pile of cash that sits still is a safety net, not a wealth plan.
Lisa picked this up from a billionaire boss she once worked for, and now she teaches it:
"Nobody saves their way to wealth. You invest your way to wealth."
Everybody tells us to save, skip the coffee, skip the Starbucks. Lisa's response was blunt: buy the coffee. Cutting small pleasures will not make you wealthy. She also noted that wealthy people tend to look for ways to put money to work, not just ways to hold on to it.
So your latte was never the villain. The real question is what your money is doing while you are busy being disciplined.
Where did we learn all this anyway?
In the conversation, we talked about how many of us grew up watching the women around us put everyone else first, tucking small amounts of cash into envelopes. That was love, and often survival too. But it also taught many of us that holding back is how we get ahead.
Here's the thing. We now have tools, education, and access our grandmothers did not have. Using them well starts with letting go of the idea that investing belongs to men, or that women are great at earning but not at growing money. That is a story, not a fact, and stories can be rewritten.
Earning money and losing it again is a tiring loop. Holding wealth is what gives you the freedom to choose.
Wealth is not built by holding back. It is built by putting your money to work.
First things first: where is your money, exactly?
Before you invest a single dollar, run a quick check. Lisa was firm that every woman needs to know everything about her financial life, whether she is single, married, or partnered. Not "my partner handles it." Everything.
Can you answer these?
• Where is my money held?
• How do I get access to it?
• Which accounts and brokerages are in the picture?
• What is invested, and where?
Stuck on a few? Perfect. That is your starting line, not a failure.
Pick your lane, then take one small step
Next up: what kind of risk taker are you? Lisa explained that you can lean toward a long term stock market strategy, explore real estate, or look at other options. There is no one right answer, only a right order: understand first, then act.
Skip reinventing the wheel. Look at what has already worked, learn why, and build from there. Confidence comes from understanding, so make learning your first investment. Lisa's tip: ask AI to break it all down in plain language, then take action.
Her tip about using AI to learn in plain language is just the beginning. From November 3 to 5, our host Lynzie Smith is speaking at the Sustainable CEO Summit: AI Edition, a free virtual summit made for founders who want AI to take real work off their plate.
On Day 2, Lynzie shares The Capacity to Connect: Building Community in the Age of AI. Breaks down how to keep your inbox organized, write outreach in your own voice, and make room for the relationships that matter most.
And please, do not do this alone
Here is the part many of us skip. Lisa stressed that nobody builds wealth by themselves, and she made a point of saying she did not do it alone either. Surround yourself with trusted people and proven resources, especially in areas that feel unfamiliar.
Tossing money at something and hoping it sticks is not a strategy. Lisa described staying inside a trusted network: for every type of investment, there is a person or a group they go to that keeps them protected and profitable. Everybody loses sometimes. The goal is avoiding the kind of big loss that makes you want to quit.
Her own investors club shows how this works: 130 women investing in real estate syndication together for six years. That is where wealth and community meet. The right room does more than hand you information. It gives you permission to take your next step.
So what is all this for?
At the end of the episode, we asked Lisa how she defines wealth. Her answer was freedom, and not only the freedom to travel or buy beautiful things, though she loves those. It is the peace she feels at night knowing she is building something for the generations after her, a legacy her family can choose to grow.
That is the point of all this: not a bigger number for its own sake, but a life with more choices.
Here is the whole guide in one breath: know your numbers, learn your style, start small, and keep good people close. Do it again and again, and money that once sat still starts to move, grow, and open doors for you and the women who follow.
